Packing

How to Pack Furniture Safely Before a Move

Bubble wrap alone won't save your dining table. Here's how the pros do it.

Packing

Start with the right materials

Premium packing isn't about quantity — it's about the right material for each surface. Stretch film for upholstery, blankets for hardwood, bubble wrap for glass and corner protectors for wooden edges. Avoid newspaper directly against fabric — ink transfers.

Dismantle where possible

Bed frames, dining tables, wardrobes and modular sofas should be dismantled. Removing legs, doors and drawers reduces the surface area at risk and makes the piece easier to wrap and carry. Tape every screw in a clearly labelled bag, taped to the piece itself.

Wrap in layers

For wooden surfaces: blanket first, then stretch film to hold it tight. For upholstery: stretch film direct (it doesn't damage fabric). For glass and mirrors: bubble wrap, then a corrugated cardboard panel on each face, then a custom wooden crate for anything valuable.

Protect the corners

Most damage during transit happens at corners. Foam corner guards or stacks of folded cardboard taped over corners absorb impact.

Load smart

Heaviest at the bottom and against the cabin wall. Mattresses and large flat items along the truck walls vertically. Fragile items high and secured with straps.
